Sponsored Post.

Everyday we wake up to news hearing at least 10 accidents around the world. Accidents are so common these days that news like that doesn’t even matter to us anymore. But have you imagined the pain of the near and dear ones who lose their family members due to accidents ? If only the person had worn the seat belt.. If only the person had not jumped the signal.. If only this and if only that !!

Cars.com helps you buy the perfect car you were looking for, sell your old car and also helps you with service and repair. It is the one-stop destination to anything related to cars with great customer service history.

The history of car safety probably started after the first ever recorded accident occurred. The accident happened on August 31, 1869 in a town in Ireland where a woman lost her life. This event probably triggered the awareness and the need for vehicle and road safety to protect not only vehicle drivers but also pedestrians.

Carmakers also promote a lot of safety features that can help you avoid accidents.

When you’re behind the wheel of a car – whether alone or with passengers – driving safely should always be your top concern. We’re more distracted than ever, so it’s crucial to know the basics of safe driving and practice them every time you’re on the road.

Here, I have put together a few tips and precautions to be taken for a safe drive.

Some basic safe driving tips:

1. Avoid high speed and shortcuts.

2. Keep 100% of your attention on driving at all times – no multi-tasking.

3. Don’t use your phone or any other electronic device while driving.

4. Slow down. Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.

5. Keep a 2-second cushion between you and the car in front of you.

6. Adjust your seat, mirrors and climate controls before putting the car in gear.

7. Always wear your seat belt and drive sober and drug-free. Seat belts are lifesaving equipments and their use reduces the chance of injury and severity of injury in case of an accident. It is strongly recommended that all the car occupants should always wear seat belts, while the car is in motion.

8.Don’t allow children to fight or climb around in your car – they should be buckled in their seats at all times. Too much noise can easily distract you from focus on the road.

9. Avoid driving when you’re tired. Be aware that some medications cause drowsiness and make operating a vehicle very dangerous.

10. Do not be aggressive on the road. Do not change lanes promptly. Driving defensively helps you remain calm even if the traffic is heavy.

Tips for Vehicle safety at the time of Emergencies :

1. Keep your gas tank full in case of evacuation or power outages. A full tank will also keep the fuel line from freezing.

2. Install good winter tires and ensure they have adequate tread or any jurisdiction-required chains or studs.

3. Do not drive through flooded areas. Six inches of water can cause a vehicle to lose control or possibly stall. A foot of water will float many cars.

4. Be aware of areas where floodwaters have receded. Roads may have weakened and could collapse under the weight of a car.

5. If a power line falls on your car you are at risk of electrical shock, stay inside until a trained person removes the wire.

6. If there is an explosion or other factor that makes it difficult to control the vehicle, pull over, stop the car and set the parking brake.

What to do when an accident occurs?

1. If you’re in an accident, first make sure no one in the car is injured. Next, check on the passengers in the other vehicle, pedestrians and anyone else nearby to make sure they are OK.

2. Call the local police immediately. They’ll dispatch an officer and medical personnel to the scene of the accident. Once the cops arrive, wait for them to complete an accident report.

3. If you’re on a busy highway, stay inside the car and wait for the police or an ambulance. It’s dangerous if passengers stand along a freeway or other road with lots of traffic.

4. Stay calm.

5. Don’t get into an argument or a fight with the other driver. Simply exchange contact and insurance information. If possible, also get the name and phone numbers of witnesses.

6. Call your insurance provider to report the claim. Your agent will ask you for any paperwork you receive about the accident, and will give you important information on getting your car fixed.

All about DUI & DWI:

Driving after drinking too much alcohol is known as Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Alcohol and drugs will severely impair your control on the vehicle and increase the risk of injury to yourself and others.

Emergency Kit for the Car:

In case you are stranded, keep an emergency supply kit in your car with the addition of these automobile extras.
1. Jumper cables.
2. Flares or reflective triangle.
3. Car cell phone charger.
4. Prepare Your Vehicle for Emergencies.

Also, have a mechanic check the following on your vehicle prior to an emergency:

1. Antifreeze levels
2. Battery and ignition system
3. Brakes
4. Exhaust system
5. Fuel and air filters
6. Heater and defroster
7. Lights and flashing hazard lights                 8. Oil.
